Common questions

Everything you have wanted to ask.

Honest answers on smartphone video, gear and editing. If your question is not here, just ask us.

Smartphone video production is using a mobile device to capture, edit and share video. It gives businesses a cost-effective, accessible way to create impactful content without a full crew or expensive equipment.

You only need your phone to begin. For professional-quality results, a tripod, an external microphone and a basic lighting kit make the biggest difference. Depending on your video type, lenses and filters add further polish. Start simple and add gear as you grow.

Hollywood directors have been shooting on the latest Samsungs and iPhones for around the last ten years, so you can genuinely make almost anything. The real limit is your imagination, not the phone in your hand. Interviews, documentaries, promotional videos, tutorials, social content and live streams are all fair game. What matters most is a clear purpose and a basic grip on framing, light and audio.

It depends what you need. CapCut and VN Video Editor are the leading all-rounders right now, both run on mobile and desktop, and that dual availability is what people expect these days. CapCut's free tier may include a watermark on some export options, worth checking before you commit to a project. Grab our free CapCut guide above to get moving.

Do both. Host on YouTube to extend your reach, it is the second largest search engine after Google. Embedding video directly on your site can slow your page down and misses out on YouTube's own discovery and recommendation reach, so hosting on YouTube and then linking or embedding selectively tends to work best. YouTube is a discovery engine as well as a host, so publishing there gives your content a second chance to be found.

Use natural light whenever you can. Prioritise clear audio over everything else. Steady your camera to reduce shake. Frame with the rule of thirds. Take a few takes. And do not underestimate editing: good post-production fixes pacing, strengthens the story and cleans up small problems in the raw footage.

Yes, significantly. Search engines favour engaging content, and video increases the time users spend on your site. Video also earns backlinks at a higher rate than text. It is also worth knowing that a lot of searching now happens through AI tools and chat-style assistants, not just a traditional search engine, so clear titles, transcripts and descriptions help your video get picked up there too. Pair that with keyword-led titles and descriptions, and it becomes one of the most effective SEO tools available to small business.

It depends heavily on platform and audience. Short form and long form serve different jobs, YouTube and TikTok reward different lengths, and content made for kids looks nothing like content made for seniors. Today's social content spans anywhere from around six seconds to two or three minutes, and that keeps shifting year to year as platforms change. The real question is not length, it is whether the video holds your specific audience's attention. Cut anything that does not earn its place.
